Colombia (1) advances over Senegal (0)

It took 75 minutes and one and only shot on target in the second half for Colombia to advance over a nimble Senegal. Colombia was the technically better team especially featuring the triumvirate of Qudrado (again the man of the match) James Rodrigez and Falcao. Senegal was fast and aggressive and surprisingly technically sound led by Liverpool’s ace Sadio Mane. Senegal had more and better chances in the first half. And James Rodriguez pulling lame in the 35th minute only added to Colombia’s stress. This was a very circumstantial game as the winner would advance and the loser go home. Mina downward powerful header from a Colombia corner decided the match. Senegal is out but not before leaving an amazing signature warmup routine by which their gallant effort in the 2018 World Cup will be remembered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i6O57I14bs
Despite a loss to Poland’s first win (1) Japan (0) advances on a weird tie breaker
Poland were playing for pride and recorded their only win in the group stage. Poland supporters must be disappointed with their national team showing especially the performance or lack thereof by their star player Lewandowski. Japan needed Senegal’s “help” by losing to Colombia which left both Senegal and Japan with an identical record on wins, points, Goals for and Goals against as seen below.
How then did Japan rather than Senegal advance? Well… Read all about it and tell me what you think. https://bit.ly/2N8ThBK
In a meaningless scrimmage between England’s B Team (0) and Belgium (1) B Team the team that lost – won? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIQTI8ZdHMY&feature=onebox
England fielded a “B” team for a meaningless match with Belgium’s “B” team. In fact, the English media speculated that England should attempt to lose the game as a win may pit them against a stronger team in the Round of 16 and in the Quarter Finals if they make it that far, where they are likely to meet the mighty Brazilians. England complied leaving Kane, Walker, Butland, Sterling, Henderson and Lingard to rest and joke around on the bench. Belgium did not do better either leaving De Bruyne, Lukaku and Eden Hazard on the bench. The ex-Manchester United Januzai did not get the memo and scored the winner for Belgium with an excellent curling shot to the top corner and a tougher road ahead. The depth of the Belgian team is astonishing for such a small country and bodes well for their prospects to go far in this World Cup, notwithstanding a possible match with Brazil in the Quarter Finals.
Tunisia (2) made its country and supporters proud winning over Panama (1)

Both teams played for pride as they have already booked their flights home before the match. Tunisia however made its countrymen proud by recording a win in the World Cup the first since 1978 when they beat Mexico. Panama was encouraged by the half time result (1:0) in their first appearance in a World Cup but conceded 2 goals in the second half. Panama had conceded 9 goals from 13 shots and are going home with a lot of work ahead to remain in the company of the elite team.
