We all have our favorite team. Clearly our National Team but more frequently and more passionately our Club team. Either because it is our city/town team or the one whose style of play we like the most or that it features one or more of our favorite player. Whatever the reason we all remember stories, events and we definitely have opinions about MY TEAM. This section of the site is dedicated to such personal experiences, stories, news, gossip, complaints, celebration all to do with our team. Let me start. I have been an avid fan of Manchester United for more than 60(!) years.
I think it started with the Munich Disaster where many Basby Babes perished in the air disaster. As a child it shocked me and from that time forward I followed the team, watched every one of their matches and a few years ago with my oldest son ( a Man. United fan himself) flew to Old Trafford the Theater of Dream to watch a United home game. During Alex Ferguson regime the team epitomized all that I love about Football: Fast, attacking, dominant, creative, skillful and some of the best and most exciting players. But more importantly the Will To Win. This intangible magical quality where you sense that even with seconds left in regulation time and the team is behind they’ll come back to tie or win in what has become known as Fergie Time. Nothing is more emblematic of this magical quality that United’s win over Bayren Munich in the 1999 Final of the European Championship league. Since the departure of Alex Ferguson in 2013 I endured a lot of heartache under the reign of David Moyes (Big Mistake) and Louis Van Gaal (almost as bad) Both made the critical mistake of attempting to morph United in their own image and their own style (defensive, cautious, conservative) . As I wrote in my thesis (see Amnon’s Corner on this site) Club teams have personalities, souls, traditions and culture. You cannot change a company like Google to become AT&T. If you try you have to kill its soul first Recently with Mourinho in charge things appear to be on the mend. Jose is a winner and if nothing else he will restore United’s hall mark – The Will To Win
